Three soldiers claimed to be witnesses to the bizarre disappearance of an entire battalion in 1915. They finally came forward with the strange story 50 years after the infamous Gallipoli campaign of WWI.

The three members of a New Zealand field company said they watched from a clear vantage point as a battalion of the Royal Norfolk Regiment marched up a hillside in Suvla Bay, Turkey.

The hill was shrouded in a low-lying cloud that the English soldiers marched straight into without hesitation. They never came out. After the last of the battalion had entered the cloud, it slowly lifted off the hillside to join other clouds in the sky.

When the war was over, figuring the battalion had been captured and held prisoner, the British government demanded that Turkey return them. The Turks insisted, however, that it had neither captured not made contact with these English soldiers.

In July 14, 1911 the three-carriage train left the Roman railway station's tourist section. The trip was arranged by a Sanneti for about 106 rich Italians who wanted to take in the sights along the scenic railway route.

The train was approaching a kilometer long mountain tunnel in Lombardy, when strange things began to happen.

According to two passengers who managed to jump in fright out of the moving train before the tunnel, everything was suddenly covered by a milk-white fog.

As the train approached  the tunnel the fog thickened, turning into a viscous jelly. The train entered the tunnel but did not exit it. The locomotive and three carriages had disappeared without a trace.

The search for the missing train resulted in nothing, and notoriety of this section of the track forced the railroad to abandon its use. The tunnel was sealed with a stone wall.

However, the story unexpectedly  continued:

Since 1911, the missing train has allegedly been seen repeatedly in different parts of the world.

In particular, in 1955, railway worker Ustimenko at Balaklava (Crimea) allegedly saw a train running along the embankment on which the rails were removed long ago. The locomotive and cars were clearly foreign-made and looked very primitive, the train was moving soundlessly. The curtains were drawn in the carriages and it seemed that not a single living person was on board.

The man who saw the train claims that at that time he was sober and realized what was happening. On the same day there was an explosion on the battleship "Novorossiisk".

A similar event occurred  in 1991 in the Poltava region of Ukraine, at the  Zavalichi crossing.

Another case was in 1994, in late autumn, at the  Half  railway station (Irkutsk region),  some time after 23:00. A young man,  alone  on the empty platform, saw a train slowly pass .

He described it as having an old design and a large inscription in Latin yellow letters yellow. The witness remembered seeing a conductor in a brown uniform with a cap with a cap-band and there was a collar fastened to his shirt. He noticed a few people in the windows of the train.

The arrival of the train was not announced because there was no train scheduled at that time.

An article dedicated to this train legend said that the 104 people showed up allegedly in 1840 in Mexico. The people were considered crazy, because they argued that they arrived from Italy by train. The article suggested that it was a ghost passenger train.

Interestingly, there may be an explanation for the Italian phenomenon: shortly before the disappearance of the Roman train there was a strong earthquake in Italy with an epicenter near Messina.

Perhaps the monstrous cracks and failures occurred not only in the rocky soil, but in the time field. The assumption is that a "wandering chronal hole" formed, which could move the train out of our ordinary three-dimensional space into the fourth dimension, where time (the chronal field), in addition to duration, acquires a new characteristic depth. So unfortunately "their vector of time, was free to move out of the present, and into the past or future."

Sometimes, not only did a person disappear, but they did so right before the eyes of witnesses, literally fading away in plain sight.

In 1815, at a Prussian prison at Weichselmunde, a prisoner by the name of Diderici was doing a 10-year sentence for assuming the identity of his dead employer by dressing up in his clothes and a wig and trying to withdraw a large amount of money after the man had died of a stroke.

Allegedly, one day Diderici was being led through the exercise yard in chains in a line of other prisoners, when something very odd began to happen.

According to other prisoners, Diderici began to literally fade away, his body gradually becoming transparent and immaterial until finally his empty manacles and chains clattered to the ground as baffled prisoners and prison guards looked on.

An inquiry into the case would turn up nearly 30 eyewitness accounts from both convicts and guards that reported the exact same thing; that Diderici had become slowly invisible until he was simply not there anymore.

Puzzled by the case, the authorities would end up brushing the whole affair under the carpet, closing the case and proclaiming it an “Act of God.” Diderici would never be seen again.

This famous case allegedly took place in September, 1880 on a farm near Gallatin, Tennessee in full view of several witnesses. The two Lang children, George and Sarah, were playing in the front yard of the family home. Their parents, David and Emma, came out the front door, and David headed off across a pasture toward his horses. At this time, a buggy carrying family friend Judge August Peck was approaching. David turned to walk back to the house, saw the buggy and waved to the judge as he strode across the field. A few seconds later, David Lang - in clear view of his wife, his children and the judge - disappeared in mid-step. Emma screamed and all of the witnesses rushed to the spot where David once was, thinking perhaps he had fallen into a hole of some kind. There was no hole. A thorough search by the family, friends and neighbours turned up nothing. A few months after the unexplained disappearance, the Lang children noticed that the grass on the spot where their father vanished had turned yellow and wilted in a circle measuring about 15 feet in diameter.

The mysterious standing stones of Stonehenge in England was the site of an amazing disappearance in August, 1971. At this time Stonehenge was not yet protected from the public, and on this particular night, a group of "hippies" decided to pitch tents in the center of the circle and spend the night. They built a campfire, lit several joints of pot and sat around smoking and signing. Their camp out was abruptly interrupted at about 2 a.m. by a severe thunder storm that quickly blew in over Salisbury Plain. Bright bolts of lightning crashed down on the area, striking area trees and even the standing stones themselves. Two witnesses, a farmer and a policeman, said that the stones of the ancient monument lit up with an eerie blue light that was so intense that they had to avert their eyes. They heard screams from the campers and the two witnesses rushed to the scene expecting to find injured - or even dead - campers. To their surprise, they found no one. All that remained within the circle of stones were several smoldering tent pegs and the drowned remains of a campfire. The hippies themselves were gone without a trace.

An individual that vanishes is one thing, but how about an entire village of 2,000 men, women and children? In November, 1930, a fur trapper named Joe Labelle made his way on snow shoes to an Eskimo village on the shores of Lake Anjikuni in northern Canada. Labelle was familiar with the village, which he knew as a thriving fishing community of about 2,000 residents. When he arrived, however, the village was deserted. All of the huts and storehouses were vacant. He found one smoldering fire on which there was a pot of blackened stew. Labelle notified the authorities and an investigation was begun, and which turned up some bizarre findings: no footprints of any of the residents were found, if they had vacated the village; all of the Eskimos' sled dogs were found buried under a 12-foot-high snow drift - they had all starved to death; all of the Eskimos' food and provisions were found undisturbed in their huts. And there was one last unnerving discovery: the Eskimos' ancestral graves had been emptied.

One of the most weird and inexplicable cases was the disappearance of five US torpedo bombers and a PBM Mariner rescue aircraft with crews.

“Flight 19 was a training flight of five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that disappeared on December 5, 1945, while over the Atlantic. The squadron's flight plan was scheduled to take them due east from Fort Lauderdale for 141 miles, north for 73 miles, and then back over a final 140-mile leg to complete the exercise. The flight never returned to base. The Flight 19 alone would be covered again in the April 1962 issue of American Legion magazine. In it, author Allan W. Eckert,  wrote that the flight leader had been heard saying, "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know where we are, the water is green, no white."

One of the search and rescue aircraft deployed to look for them, a PBM Mariner with a 13-man crew, also disappeared.”

On December 28, 1948 a Douglas Dakota DC-3 air-plane took off from Puerto Rico heading for Miami, Florida. When it was 50 miles from the airport, the flight sent out its final radio call to indicate its position.

After that the flight was never seen and heard from again. It had 26 people on board and became the first Douglas Dakota aircraft to go missing in the Florida Keys.

Since then, there have been two more cases, all of them around the same location, in the string of islands just south of Florida.

Pakistan International Airlines Flight 404 was a Fokker F27 Friendship that disappeared shortly after take-off on August 25, 1989 with 49 passengers and 5 of the crew. At 07:36, a domestic scheduled passenger flight of Pakistan International Airlines took off from the northern city of Gilgit, Pakistan on its way to the national capital Islamabad.

One of the pilots of the aircraft made a routine radio call at 08:50; this was the last communication with the aircraft.

The aircraft is thought to have crashed in the Himalayas, but the wreckage has never been found.

Cyclops was launched on 7 May 1910, by William Cramp and Sons, Philadelphia, and placed in service on 7 November 1910.

USS Cyclops (AC-4) was one of four Proteus-class colliers built for the United States Navy several years before World War I. Named for the Cyclops, a primordial race of giants from Greek mythology, she was the second U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name. The loss of the ship and 306 crew and passengers without a trace within the area known as the Bermuda Triangle some time after 4 March 1918 remains the single largest loss of life in U.S. Naval history not directly involving combat. As it was wartime, there was speculation she was captured or sunk by a German raider or submarine, because she was carrying 10,800 long tons (11,000 t) of manganese ore used to produce munitions, but German authorities at the time, and subsequently, denied any knowledge of the vessel.  The Naval History & Heritage Command has stated she "probably sank in an unexpected storm" but the ultimate cause of the ship's fate is unknown.

While some suggest that the combination of the overloaded condition, engine trouble, and bad weather may have conspired to sink Cyclops, an extensive naval investigation concluded: “Many theories have been advanced, but none that satisfactorily accounts for her disappearance.” This summation was written, however, before two of Cyclops‍'​s sister ships, Proteus and Nereus, vanished in the North Atlantic during World War II. Both ships were transporting heavy loads of metallic ore similar to that which was loaded on Cyclops during her fatal voyage. In both cases, it was theorized that their loss was the result of catastrophic structural failure,  but a more outlandish theory attributes all three vessels' disappearances to the Bermuda Triangle.

The collier USS Proteus (AC-9) was laid down on 31 October 1911, by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, and launched on 14 September 1912. She was the lead ship of her class of four colliers. With the threat of war looming, she was commissioned on 9 July 1913, to the United States Navy.

She decommissioned at Norfolk on 25 March 1924 and remained inactive until her name was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 5 December 1940. She was sold to Saguenay Terminals Ltd. of Montreal, Quebec on 8 March 1941 and thereafter operated in the Canadian Merchant Navy.

Proteus was lost at sea to an unknown cause sometime after 23 November 1941. There are no German U-boat claims for this vessel. One outlandish theory is that the vessel's disappearance can be attributed to the Bermuda Triangle. A more likely explanation is a design flaw in the ships. A memorial listing of her crew can be found at the CWGC Halifax Memorial. A Canadian website suggests Proteus‍'​s possible fate as having foundered in heavy seas on November 25, 1941 somewhere in the Caribbean Sea with the loss of all of her 58 crewmembers.

Another theory is that the vessel's disappearance can be attributed to the Bermuda Triangle.

Named for Nereus, an aquatic deity from Greek mythology, she was the second U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name.  Nereus was laid down on 4 December 1911, and launched on 26 April 1913 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.

Nereus was sold to the Aluminium Company of Canada on 27 February 1941, Nereus operated out of Montreal carrying bauxite from the Caribbean to aluminium plants in the United States and Canada. 

Nereus was lost at sea sometime after 10 December 1941 while steaming from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands (along the same route where her sister ship, Cyclops, had disappeared) with ore destined to make aluminium for Allied aircrafts. 

Nereus was presumed sunk after being torpedoed by a German U-boat. However, there are no German U-boat claims for this vessel.

The wreckage has never been located nor the actual cause of her disappearance determined.

The initial presumption of the cause of her loss was that she was sunk by a German U-boat. No direct evidence, however, has been found to support this theory. The website U-Boat.net lists neither the Nereus nor the Proteus among the ships known to have been sunk by U-boats.

Another theory is that the vessel's disappearance can be attributed to the Bermuda Triangle.

By the researcher and writer on paranormal phenomenon Charles Berlitz, since 1945, over 100 ships and planes and 1,000 people have vanished in the Bermuda Triangle and near-by - without a trace.

On February 23, 2007, the sinkhole collapsed, forming a very large, deep circular hole with vertical walls and killing five people. Its location was in a poor neighbourhood in northeaster Guatemala City, at the intersection of 24 Avenida and 6 Calle.

This hole was 100 metres (330 ft) deep and 20 metres (66 ft) wide of the shape of perfect vertical cylinder. The capacity of this cylinder like VSH is about 3,14 million cubic metres.

As a result, one thousand people were evacuated from the area. Police established a 500-yard (457-meter) no-go zone around the sinkhole.

In 2010 one of the most devastating VSH in recent times hit Guatemala City. An area approximately 20 m wide and 30 m deep collapsed, swallowing a three-storey factory and killing 15 people.

A large crater opens up in the middle of a suburb in the central German town of Schmalkalden on November 1, 2010. The crater, measuring 30 by 40 metres, appeared in the early hours of the morning and shocked inhabitants deeply.

This was an inverted cone-like vanished-soil-hole with the depth about 20 metres.

Residents in a small western Kansas community say they can't believe their eyes. Something unexplainable happened that's left people in awe and a little on edge. 

“There's no oil well around here, there are no irrigation wells anywhere near. This is something that just happened. This is a God thing,” said peoples.

And it's something that's left people in awe, wondering just how solid the ground is where they are walking.

A huge 20-metre wide (66 ft) and 40-metre (132 ft) deep sinkhole formed overnight in the yard of a family home in Leshan, southwest China's Sichuan Province in January 2011.

Zhang Fengrong said he heard a loud roaring sound coming from outside. When he went to investigate he was stunned to discover the huge pit.

A gigantic sinkhole buried a large building in a village near Guangyuan, Sichuan Province on December 12. 2013.

Villager Wang Jiashun said his family had been feeling strong vibrations coming from underground for the past 20 days, reported Sichuan News.

Wang said an incessant noise had been coming from the ground for several days. On Wednesday afternoon, the loud noise so unnerved Wang, his mother and wife that they fled the home, returning at about 7 p.m.

Feeling uneasy, Wang stayed awake until 11:38 p.m., when he heard another huge noise and felt the earth shake.

He pushed open the window, only to find his house was sinking in dense smoke. Wang woke his family up and run out without even stopping to put on his shoes.

On Thursday morning, the ground suddenly opened up and swallowed most of the family's old house, destroying around 11 rooms in the process.

Their new home also suffered some minor damage during the cave-in, but luckily no one was injured.

Starting as a small sinkhole, it got bigger and bigger, growing to 20 meters over the course of six days.

However, the family is still afraid to sleep at their home since the 60 meters long and about 30 meters deep crater keeps gradually expanding.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the subsidence.

According to the example of the formation of a VSH in a village near the city of Guangyuan, we may draw interesting conclusions.

Two buildings in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou vanished into a sinkhole on Monday, January 28, 2013, but authorities filled in the hole in less than 24 hours, China's state broadcaster CCTV reported.

No one was hurt in the collapse because the people who lived in the buildings had moved out.

The sinkhole appeared on Monday, causing a three-storey building to collapse. More subsidence occurred later that evening, leading to the collapse of another three-storey building.

“ November 18, 2014, one of the mines of “Uralkali” company, located near the town of Solikamsk in the Perm region, was flooded, all workers were evacuated. A little bit later, a huge sinkhole was found on the territory, occupied by garden plots of local residents. At that time, the hole in the ground had a diameter of 30 meters.

Over the past nine months, the sinkhole greatly expanded and its current size is 120×125 meters. The following photos were taken on August 2015”

The hole, which has swallowed up to 20 local weekend cottages, is even visible from space and is believed to be more than 75m deep.

On July 10, 2014 a video was uploaded to YouTube about a huge sinkhole in the Yamal peninsula in Siberia, Russia. It was found by scientists on board a helicopter.

The diameter of the cylinder like hole is 30 metres and depth is believed to be about 60 – 70 metres.

Scientists found in the bottom of the hole unusually high concentrations of methane — up to 9.6%, to compare with air normally contains just 0.000179% methane, and believe that the hole was formed by a methane gas explosion.

Scientists established that in the bottom of the hole is a water layer, its depth wasn't detected.

Scientists say they have discovered another eight smaller sinkholes in a 10 km radius from this major huge sinkhole discovered on July 2014.

On June 4, 2010 in the middle of a freeway in Zhejiang Province, China’s eastern coast, suddenly opened up a sinkhole measured 20 feet deep and 27 feet wide.

The hole occurred when a light truck drove over the spot. The truck rolled over when its rear wheels were caught at the edge of the hole.

The slightly injured driver climbed out and stopped traffic when he saw the giant hole.

Police arrived within 10 minutes and blocked the road.

Sinkhole damages are the highest in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.

A massive, approximately 200 ft (60 m) by 240 ft (72 m), VSH opened up and tore apart the pavement of Soledad Mountain Road on October 3, 2007, in the Mount Soledad neighbourhood of La Jolla, California, USA.

The landslide damaged or destroyed six homes and forced the evacuation of at least 20 others.

The VSH opened so suddenly beneath a Cadillac on a road in Milwaukee on 2010, that the car fell into the hole on the wheels and was able to running 20 hours after the fell.

Geologists report that the region is currently home to over 3,000 sinkholes, some as much as 80 ft deep and the numbers are increasing daily. This may to compare to 40 in 1990 and with the first sinkhole appearing in the 1980s.

The reason behind this irreversible dangerous phenomenon is the Dead Sea's ever decreasing level of water.

Until the 1960's the Jordan River annually dumped about 450 billion gallons of water into the Dead Sea. Today it brings only a fraction of that. That's because countries around Dead Sea have been rerouting large amounts for drinking and agricultural use.

Scientists confirm that Dead Sea drying up at a rate of one meter per year.

Experts claim that the number of a large and devastating sinkholes are increasing throughout the region and they are forming now at a rate of nearly one a day, but have no way of knowing when or how they will show up.

A woman has fallen into a three-metre sinkhole while hanging out washing at Springvale in Melbourne's outer east, emergency crews say. The ground opened up under the 45-year-old woman just before midday on Tuesday on Olympic Avenue and she slid down the hole into a pool of water. The woman told paramedics she could not touch the bottom of the hole and had to swim to keep afloat. A paramedic said at one point the woman's head was under water.

"The woman told us she was hanging washing out in the backyard at about 11:30am when the ground gave way," she said. "She fell with the dirt and mud, dropping about three metres and landing in waist deep water. "The woman managed to attract attention of neighbours after about 30 minutes and emergency services were called."

Firefighters arrived on scene a short time later and pulled her from the hole. Paramedics said she was not injured. "This was a very unusual incident," he said. "Fortunately the lady has escaped without injury though she was obviously shaken up.

Residents of a small village in eastern India are terrified as mysterious sinkholes emitting smoke, ashes, gas and heat are popping open all over the area. Witnesses say the soil is burning, liquid in the holes is bubbling and leaves placed near them burst into flames. Have the gates of hell opened in Old Wahong Village?

Locals say the first hole was discovered in late May by a 16­year­old boy whose foot sank into the ground in a nearby forest and came out severely burned. When adults from the village returned to the site two weeks later, the hole had grown to 30 feet across and the surrounding vegetation was on fire. When they pushed sticks into the nearby ground, gas and bubbling liquid escaped and the ground sank. One villager described the scene: The burnt soil smells pungent somewhat akin to garlic pickle and resembles dark maroon in color.

Should the residents of Old Wahong Village be worried about the hot sinkholes? That might be a good idea. The village is in the Ukhrul District in the northeast corner of India bordering Myanmar in an extremely remote area that’s eight hours by car from the district’s headquarters. Even worse, it’s near the meeting point of the tectonic plates of India and Myanmar. Their scraping and shifting may explain the current hot sinkholes as well as similar but smaller ones in 2006, 2012 and 2013, not to mention a mud volcano that formed in the neighboring village of New Tusom in 2013.

Local officials, state government investigators and a team from the Manipur University’s Earth Sciences Department are on their way to check out the sinkholes and determine if they’re from an underground fire or potential volcanic activity. That smell of garlic pickles has me puzzled. Could the hot smoking holes be caused by an underground demon or alien with a taste for kosher food? And wouldn’t Hot Smoking Sinkholes be a great name for a band?

The pond was established by the owner artificially on the year 2001 as a circle-like water reservoir with a circle-like peninsula in its center. The pond's ice average thickness was 35 cm and the nine holes were in the pond's ice in the circle-mode order as have seen in the drawing below. All the holes had a conic structure and their upper diameter was between 120 to 260 mm and lower diameter was between 100 to 200 mm.

Measurements were made of the radiation levels and water temperature levels in the water column and at the base of each hole. After that a diver investigated all the bottom of the pond and no sources of methane was find and no any causes for forming these holes.

On the third of April 2011 Ants Taul noticed two black spots under a snow cover on his circle-like pond in Riidaja village in Valga county, Estonia.

They cleaned one of the black spot's place and found there was a perfect ice circle with diameter of 2,5 metre. They did not clean the other circle.

They made different measurements and found that this time the thickness of the ice outside the circle was 40 cm, but the area of the ice circle was covered with ice only 5 cm thick. From the ice circle edges down about 45 degree to the surrounding, ice was gone. Watch the scheme below.

The measurement of the temperature of the water and the methane, showed that these ice circles weren't formed by any known phenomena.

An Iowa couple is looking for help trying to identify something that fell from the sky and onto their land over the weekend.  It happened sometime late Friday night or early Saturday just south of Knoxville in Marion County.

"Whatever it was it hit hard enough to throw water out of that in a big round circle," says Denny Straube.  

On Saturday morning, Straube saw three holes in the ice on his pond.  The biggest was about three feet across.  From his dining room that morning, Denny quickly noticed something different.  The impact of the mystery object left several 15 foot cracks running from the hole and about three inches of displaced water on top of the ice.  

"Did someone lose something off an airplane?  Was there a meteor shower that night?" Denny Straube wonders.

"Maybe God's mad and throwing snowballs at us," Terry Straube says.

Whatever fell from the sky this weekend, it's under six feet of ice and water.  The Straube's hope someone volunteers to scuba dive in their pond this summer to find out.

Last Friday, during an early spring snowstorm, Eden resident Peggy Gervase was looking at the pond near her home when she noticed an unusual pattern in the snow covering the water's surface: large circles that resembled giant polka dots. "I've never seen this before in our pond," Gervase told local TV stationWGRZ. "It's eerie in a way, but cool in a way."

After Gervase posted a photograph of the pond circles to the station's Facebook page, respondents offered a number of explanations for the strange circles, including elephant footprints, fish flatulence and aliens. Though aliens sometimes get the blame for crop circles and other unusual phenomenon, with no real evidence, Gervase isn't buying it. "I'm not that far gone yet," she told WGRZ.

The measures of the hole were 40 ft (12 m) in diameter and 30 ft (9 m) deep and swallowed nine cars.

On November 2010, a giant crater suddenly opened up in a family home in Guilin, southern China's Guangxi Province. The pit formed at around 2:30 am when the members of the family were all in bed.

Homeowner Zeng Pengqi said: 'We heard a loud cracking sound and the ground was shaking. We thought it was an earthquake'.

The family raced outside but was bewildered to find that no other homes were shaking; venturing back inside they discovered that a huge 2m deep pit had mysteriously opened up in one of the downstairs rooms.

On the night of February 28, 2013 Jeffrey Bush, 37, was sleeping in his bedroom in Seffner - a suburb east of downtown Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA - when the earth opened up and swallowed the man from his bed into a 30 ft (9 m) deep vanished-soil-hole. The ground just swallowed him up.

A Florida man fell into a sinkhole that opened suddenly Thursday night beneath the bedroom of his suburban Tampa home, calling out to his brother for help as he fell, the brother said Friday.

"I ran toward my brother's bedroom because I heard my brother scream," Jeremy Bush told CNN.

"Everything was gone. My brother's bed, my brother's dresser, my brother's TV. My brother was gone."

Jeffrey Bush, 37, was sucked into the sinkhole while he slept in his family home in Seffner and when his brother, Jeremy, jumped in the hole to try to save him, he was nowhere to be seen.

Jeremy Bush frantically tried to rescue his brother, Jeff Bush, by standing in the hole and digging at the rubble with a shovel until police arrived and pulled him out, saying the floor was still collapsing.

"I couldn't get him out. I tried so hard. I tried everything I could," he said through tears. "I could swear I heard him calling out."

Jeremy Bush and four other people, including a 2-year-old child, escaped from the blue, one-story 1970s-era home in Seffner, a Tampa suburb.

Rescuers still hadn't gone into the hole -- it's too dangerous. Authorities say they worry the hole is still spreading and the house could collapse at any time.

The sinkhole was about 20 feet (6 m) to 30 feet (9 m) across and may be 30 feet (9 m) deep.

"It started in the bedroom, and it has been expanding outward and it's taking the house with it as it opens up," said an authority. As the sinkhole continued to deepen, nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Hillsborough County is part of an area known as "sinkhole alley" that accounts for two-thirds of the sinkhole-related insurance claims in the state, according to a Florida state Senate Insurance and Banking Committee report.

A 30-foot-wide sinkhole that killed a Florida resident in 2013 has re-opened in the same location it once did two years ago, authorities said.

The hole opened again at 9:30 a.m. today on August 19, 2015 at 240 Faithway Drive in Seffner and was about 20 feet (6 m) deep, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

"The hole opened up exactly where it was last time. Code enforcement is out there now and they are waiting on specialists and geologists to survey the site and determine what to do next. Not only is it very rare, but here, there was a fatality."

In February 28, 2013, Jeffrey Bush was asleep in his bedroom when the floor collapsed beneath him and he fell into a hole, ABC News reported at the time.

His brother, Jeremy Bush was inside the home when the incident occurred, but failed at his attempt to rescue him. The 37-year-old's body was never recovered.

"It’s the same site it was in 2013 but of course, the property had been fenced off, the house had been demolished, and the hole had been filled in. We’ve seen them reopen before.

Generally when they fill them in, they are pretty stable -- subsequent to that of repairs, so it is pretty rare that it reopened to this extent. Our biggest thing is we've cordoned off the area in case it does expand, nobody is injured,” said an authority.

"Specialists are surveying the surrounding areas to check for other caverns that are vulnerable to collapsing as well," an authority added.
